Tuesday Hunt

Today Odessa and I went out jump shooting ducks in the morning and pheasant hunting in the afternoon. We put up a hen and drake mallard right off the bat and I shot the drake. It took a few minutes to find it in the tall grass, but Odessa came running out with it in her mouth. We hunted for four more hours before we put up the pheasants. Both birds flushed before she could point.

Thanksgiving Day Hunt

Erin & Odessa
Thanksgiving Day

Erin shot her bird shortly after I got mine. Odessa pointed perfect and flushed three roosters in the same spot. Erin knocked one down with a really good shot.

Pheasant Hunt

Pheasant Hunt Nov. 22nd.
On Saturday I went out bird hunting in the Owyhee's in the morning and didn't get anything. In the afternoon Erin and I went after pheasants. Erin shot her first pheasant and I managed to drop one.
Odessa did great. Erin's bird was hit, but we were not sure how bad. Odessa kept after the rooster and caught it in thick brush and brought it out. My bird she retrieved to my hand. She is really doing good, she held point on both birds.
Looking forward to some days off coming up.

Idaho Whitetail

On Sunday November 9th I took this 4x4 whitetail near Elk City, Idaho. I shot him about 300 yards from the spot that I took the spike elk earlier in the season. He was a nice heavy buck with a swollen neck and was searching for a doe when he came by me. Took about 4 hrs to get him back to camp, but it was worth it. Here are some more pictures from that day.

Couple Pictures of the buck after I got him to the fire lane. It was another 2hrs of dragging after this to get him to camp. I sure wish I would have brought the ATV.

Pretty decent brow tines.

This is a picture after I dragged the buck up to the fire lane. Just behind the buck to the left out of the picture is where I shot him. He ran over the ridge to the right of the picture and tumbled down that ravine.

The buck ended up rolling down this hill after he was shot, took a little over an hour to get him up to the fire lane that leads to my camp.

Pheasant Hunt Courtney & Dad

Pheasant Hunt Nov. 6th

Tonight I took off a couple hours early and Courtney and I headed out pheasant hunting for a couple of hours. We put on a few miles and only heard 1 bird flying a long ways away, until we got this bird. Courtney shot twice and I finally dropped it on my third shot. We had a really good time.

Sunday Pheasant Hunt

Pheasant Hunt
Well after hunting Chucker we decided to go pheasant hunting again on the way home. Odessa put up three roosters in an hour after everyone had gone through this area. One I could not get a shot at, the other I flat out missed and finally I shot the last one she put up.
Odessa did great again!

Chucker Hunting

Here are a few pictures after the hunt. The truck is parked as high as we were allowed to drive. From that point Odessa and I hiked almost to the top of that mountain in that picture. Next time we will take a different road, all the roads are locked and you have to get a key from Fish & Game to access the area. This was the only place they would let me hunt since it had rained so much.

Here are a few pictures from Chucker Hunting on Sunday. These pictures are looking at the mountains in Oregon across the river.
You can see the road that we drove up the side of mountain to the locked gate.

Odessa and Her Pheasants

Here are some pictures of Odessa the newest member of our family. She is an all black German Shorthair Pointer. I took her out pheasant hunting for the first time Saturday to the WMA in Montour. She did great!
She had outstanding points on both birds and had a great point and flush on the second bird. Hopefully if the rain clears we will be hunting Chucker tomorrow.

Spike Bull

Spike Bull Elk
On Friday October 10th at around 11am I took my first elk in Idaho. It happened so fast I could hardly believe it was over after only 3 1/2hrs of hunting. But then the work begins, quartering, hauling and cutting the elk up. But in the end we have a lot of great tasting meat. It was a great hunt and I could not have asked for anything more.

Elk Down

Elk
Just a couple of pictures of the elk. It took 2hrs to quarter him and 1hr to haul him to the opening at the top of this picture.

Elk Down

Elk Pole
After about 5hrs of packing the meat out to camp it is finally hung on the meat pole to cool. It was about 15 degrees that night so it was a good night for the meat to hang.

Opening Morning

Opening Morning
Opening morning brought a little snow. I worked the ridges glassing for elk or deer going through the openings
