December Weekend

Chris and I have had a couple of pretty good weekends of duck hunting. This weekend we shot seven ducks on Saturday and should have had a few more but we missed them. Sunday I went out pheasant hunting in the afternoon, it was warm and not much fun trying to walk through a foot of snow. But Odessa and I got a couple of pheasants. Next weekend we will head back to our new duck hunting spot, should be good shooting.

This weekend we had a great time bird hunting. Saturday we shot 3 pheasants and a drake mallard. Sunday Chris and I shot 2 drakes and 1 hen mallard. It was a fun weekend and the dogs did great both days.

Idaho Whitetail 2010

This morning on the 2nd to last weekend of the hunting season I managed to take this nice 4 x 3 Idaho Whitetail Buck. Just after daybreak I used my grunt call and after the 2nd sequence of calls he came in and made a scrape. I had to wait until he was done to take a clear shot. This is the 3rd buck off that ridge. It was a great day.

Chris and I went out bird hunting with Odessa the night before we went elk hunting. We got 5 quail and a rooster pheasant. And missed several other quail. It was a really fun night...

Elk Hunt 2010

We went up for a week of elk & deer hunting at the end of October. We saw a few deer, but we didn't see any elk this year. We all had a good time spending a week in the mountains.

We did get snow on the 2nd day and went for a walk to see if we could find any fresh elk tracks. Chris shot a grouse and a snowshoe hare.

Took out the treestands and bear bait barrel on the last day. Nothing came in to the bear bait all week.

Bear Hunt 2010 - Sept 18/19

We got up to camp late on Friday and decided to put up camp because it looked like it might rain. We got to the bear stand around 6:30 and after 10 minutes a big sow and three cubs came in to the bait. They stayed for about an hour and then left and a small cinnamon colored bear came in to the bait. As that one was coming in I looked behind us and another black bear was coming in, but he spooked and took off right away. Saturday morning I shot two grouse with the dogs, they did great. Saturday night the sow and cubs came in again and left after about an hour. We could hear another bear in the brush but it never came out. Sunday morning at first light we went to the stand and got about 50 yards from the stand and we could see a bear at the bait. We couldn't tell what bear it was so Erin didn't because we didn't want to shoot the sow by mistake. Turns out it was one of the black bears we were after. Oh well...Going back up Friday.

More trail cam pictures from Saturday night after Erin passed on the smaller bear. Trail cam picked up pictures of the small bear & a bigger black bear that came in for the first time. Also a picture of us checking the camera Sunday morning.

Erin & I went up bear/grouse hunting this weekend. We each shot a grouse on Saturday morning and then sat on the bear stand Saturday night. We had a smaller cinnamon colored bear come in to the bait Saturday night for about an hour. Erin decided it was to small to shoot. I went out grouse hunting Sunday morning and only put up one bird. Also have a trail cam on the bear bait.
